The Persimmon Creek Writers and Artists Residency announces a call for artists working in all fiber mediums to submit work for a three-day show in the Village of Arrow Rock, Missouri. The show will run in conjunction with residency presentations.

The theme of the exhibition is “A Show of Hands.” Artists are invited to submit an interpretation of this theme in the context of the Persimmon Creek Residency and the Village of Arrow Rock. These interpretations may explore the aims of the Persimmon Creek Residency or the context of the Village through its history, architecture, material culture, current and former residents, etc.

Important Notes

1. All entries must be original, made by hand within the last three years, and no larger than 36 inches by 36 inches.

2. All pieces must be prepared for hanging.

3. If you are mailing your piece, please provide prepaid postage for return. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the piece. Insurance is at the discretion of the artist.

4. If you hand-deliver your entry, it must be picked up by June 18, 2024.

5. If you are willing to sell your work, please include the price of the piece.

Lastly, please provide a brief artist’s statement with your piece that supports your interpretation of “A Show of Hands.”

The goals of The Persimmon Creek Writers and Artists Residency are to introduce the Village of Arrow Rock to a wider national creative audience; to recognize the historic presence of African American lives in the Village of Arrow Rock; and to promote art and writing as a vehicle for conversation, contemplation and enrichment in everyday life. The “A Show of Hands” fiber show is intended to demonstrate how art serves as a bridge of communication and understanding available to all people.
